STARS Complex

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 19, 2017) – From April 28 until the end of the school year, students of Dunbar, Fort Myers, and Cypress Lake middle schools will be able to take advantage of a free new program at the Dr. Ann Murphy Knight S.T.A.R.S. Complex. The S.T.A.R.S. Middle School Sunrise Club will provide a safe environment for students from 7:00-8:30 a.m. on school days.

The S.T.A.R.S. Complex is located at 2980 Edison Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33916.

“This is a great opportunity for students to complete any unfinished homework or get homework assistance,” explains Gary Bostic, senior recreation center manager with the City of Fort Myers.  “They can use their school-issued tablets or the S.T.A.R.S. computer lab.  Students can also receive on-site tutoring in trouble subjects before school.”

S.T.A.R.S. Middle School Sunrise Club students will be eligible for transportation to Dunbar, Fort Myers, and Cypress lake middle schools through the Lee County School District’s busses.

Founded in 1991, the S.T.A.R.S. (Success Through Academic and Recreational Support) Program was initiated to help the youth of the City of Fort Myers set and obtain goals for a bright future.  The S.T.A.R.S. Program helps the youth of Fort Myers discover alternatives to drugs, crime, illiteracy and poverty through activities such as sports, music, dance, arts and academics.
