FORT MYERS, FL (May 17, 2017) – “ A Tribute to America’s Heroes” will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Centennial Park in downtown Fort Myers. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The seventh annual event offers a tribute to the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
The program will include music by the Southwest Florida Symphony, presentation of colors by the Fort Myers Police Department, and a rifle salute by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. LCSO and Lee County Mosquito Control will perform a helicopter flyover, and a wreath will be laid on the Caloosahatchee River by local marine units. The tribute will be hosted by NBC-2 news anchor Clay Miller.
The event is sponsored by the City of Fort Myers Recreation Division, the Lee County Chapter of the American Red Cross, American Legion Post 38, and Lee County Veteran’s Affairs.
The American Red Cross will collect donations to include in care packages for deployed troops. The public is encouraged to donate items such as individually wrapped candy, microwave popcorn, nuts, pretzels, and powdered drink mixes. Toiletry items are also needed, including shaving cream, razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bath soap, and shower gel. Other non-perishable items are also acceptable; including travel size wet wipes, sunscreen, lip balm, and foot power. Donations of games and entertainment activities such as playing cards, puzzles, and reading materials for the troops will also be accepted by the Red Cross.
