Fort Myers Celebrates City Government Week

OCTOBER 18-24, 2009 (full schedule)

FCGW LogoFort Myers, FL (October 13, 2009) – The City of Fort Myers will be joining cities across Florida to celebrate Florida City Government Week October 18-24, 2009.  Florida City Government Week, sponsored by the Florida League of Cities, is a time to recognize the important role played by City government in our lives.  The City of Fort Myers’ primary purpose is to preserve and enrich the quality of life, which is unique to our community. The City involves residents, businesses and organizations in the development of a well integrated, family oriented community. The City also delivers critical public services in an efficient, professional and timely manner, always treating citizens with dignity and respect. Because City government is the government closest to most citizens, and the one with the most direct daily impact upon its residents, municipal officials feel they have a responsibility to pass along their understanding of public services and their benefits.

The City of Fort Myers would like to spread the word to all residents, civic organizations and educational institutions that they can shape and influence City government! Florida City Government Week activities are being celebrated around the theme, “My City: I’m Part of It, I’m Proud of It”.

“We are very excited about the events planned for City Government Week,” said City Manager William Mitchell. “We believe that through this event, The City of Fort Myers has a timely opportunity to help city residents become more informed about the services provided by our city which, in turn, will lead to more knowledgeable citizen participation in the future. This enrichment of the quality of life in our unique community is the purpose of local government”.
