Kayakers on Billy Creek help cleanup the aquatic environment

Billy Creek Cleanup

  1. City of Fort Myers Partners with Florida Gulf Coast University Students to Clean Up Waterways and Communities

The City of Fort Myers partnered with FGCU students to clean up trash in and around Billy Creek preserve and filter marsh. Volunteers were able to clean up 12 cubic yards of trash over a two day project in October of 2020. Many helpers walked around the trails and boardwalks to collect litter, and others were in canoes cleaning up the aquatic environment. Students learned about the city's sustainability efforts with the creek and filter marsh, as well as other environmental projects throughout many city departments. This service learning opportunity was a chance for students to gain knowledge and help their community.
