FORT MYERS, Fla. (Feb. 6, 2020) – Professional and amateur golfers alike will compete in the Yuengling Open at the Fort Myers Country Club on Saturday, February 29 and Sunday, March 1, 2020. Admission and parking is free, and spectators are permitted to walk fairways with the players.
The Yuengling Open is in its 58th year and is the longest running golf event in the region. Defending champion Derek Lamely will be among the players competing for the Yuengling Open title. Other players include Southwest Florida native George McNeill.
Rich Lamb, director of golf for the City of Fort Myers, says the tournament provides a weekend of enjoyment for the community. “Spectators can get up close and personal with the game, whether they are a regular attendee, or it is their first time here at the Fort Myers Country Club,” says Lamb. “Our world-class and newly renovated public course provides a beautiful venue for this annual tournament, and it’s free to attend."
The Fort Myers Country Club celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2017 and is one of the oldest golf facilities on the west coast of Florida, opening in 1917. Since its renovation in 2014, “The Fort” endearingly nicknamed by local residents, has been named the Best Public Golf Course in Southwest Florida by Gulfshore Business magazine.
The Fort Myers Country Club is located at 3591 McGregor Blvd. in Fort Myers. Pairings and tee times for the Yuengling Open will be available on the Fort Myers Country Club website: https://cityftmyers.com/1791/Yuengling-Open .
