FORT MYERS, Fla. (Aug. 26, 2020) – The City of Fort Myers is in the process of developing the 2020-2024 Consolidated Plan (October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2025) and FY 2020-2021 Annual Action Plan to detail the proposed use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program funds. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allocates approximately $625,000 in grant funds to the city’s CDBG program each year. The funds go towards developing stronger communities by providing housing, creating suitable living environments and expanding economic opportunities, principally for low to moderate-income persons residing within the city limits.

The city invites residents, non-profit organizations and community leaders to the Community Development Block Grant Consolidated Plan and Annual Action Plan virtual community meeting on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, starting at 4:30 p.m.

Every five years the city completes the Consolidated Plan and submits it to HUD, describing needs and available resources for affordable housing and development in the community. The plan also establishes priorities and strategies to meet those needs. Moreover, the Consolidated Plan is carried out through the Annual Action Plan, providing a concise summary of the actions, activities and specific federal and non-federal resources that will be used every year to address the priorities and specific goals in the Consolidated Plan. The city is focused on housing, public service, public facilities and economic development initiatives.

Community-wide participation helps identify and address housing and community development. All comments will be considered in the Five Year Consolidated Plan for FY 2020-2024 and the Annual Action Plan for FY 2020-2021.
