Please monitor the City of Fort Myers Government social channels on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for constant posts about every evolving information and resources associated with post-hurricane recovery.

We would like to thank our residents for all your help as we work nonstop to return our city to normalcy. It will take us a while to rebuild after Hurricane Ian, but we are strong, resilient and united in the face of adversity.  Since winds subsided, our crews and first responders have been out in the community clearing roads and managing emergencies. We are gathering information about which stores are currently open to provide those details as well.


DONATIONS

We are extremely grateful to receive water and non-perishable food items at this time.

MEDICATION

Most grocery and department store pharmacies are open to fill prescriptions at this time. Due to the State of Emergency, patients are allowed to submit refill prescriptions in advance.


FOOD AND water

The city is connected with and supporting local organizations that are dedicated to continue providing resources to our community. The following organizations are both collecting donations and providing donated items to those in need:

  • Riverside Church, 8660 Daniels Pkwy, 941-877-0518 | www.Riversidechurch.org/relief. Open 7 days per week 10AM-2PM for donations and community pickup. Specifically needing cleaning supplies, hygiene, toiletries, diapers and baby supplies. No forklift or pallet jack available. 

  • St. John First Missionary Baptist: 2044 Brown St, 239-334-0591 | Pastor Williams 239-784-4107.  Please provide advance notice for any forklift donation drop-off. 

  • Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church: 2754 Orange St, 33916, 239-332-0305 | Pastor Glover 239-258-4112. Please provide advance notice for any forklift donation drop-off.

  • St. Hilary’s Episcopal Church: 5011 McGregor Blvd, 239-936-1000. Donations are accepted Wednesday 10AM-2PM.


HOUSING RESOURCES

Those who are in need of a safe haven, we strongly urge you to take advantage of one of the following housing options:


Shelters

Shelters have food and water and are not filled to capacity. Each person receives a certain amount of space. You should take clothing, snacks, bedding/pillows, book/magazines, chargers, etc… all the items you’ll need to sustain the next couple of days if necessary.

Hotels and Motels that Participate in FEMA voucher program

Additionally, FEMA representatives have informed us that the agency reimburses for other forms of housing that displaced families my locate. Please visit

    * Don't forget to bring your own towel, soap will be provided. Shower shoes are also recommended.  MUST WEAR SWIMSUIT.


Sharpening Chain Saws (Limited Repair/Tune-up)

  • Fort Myers Skatium, 2250 Broadway, Fort Myers |  8AM - 6PM. This service is being provided free of charge by Oregon Products.

  • Oregon Tools, located in front of the Enterprise Center, 3903 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd | 8:30AM - 5:30PM.  


Clothes

Goodwill Southwest Florida - Free Goodwill vouchers for those negatively impacted by Hurricane Ian are being distributed through their Community Resource Centers, as well as their remote locations that support City or County relief efforts where they have staff. These vouchers are being provided to help community members who are in need due to significant hurricane impact.*Vouchers can be redeemed for donated goods at any open Goodwill retail stores in Southwest Florida. Each family member can receive a $25 Voucher (maximum of 4/family).


Mental Health Resources

Call the CRISIS HOTLINE for support with stressors that are impacting your mental health negatively

CLOSURES

Lee County Schools has announced a reopening plan beginning October 17, 2022. Please visit their website for details.

Eastwood and Fort Myers Golf Courses will remain closed until further notice.

Due to debris safety concerns, City of Fort Myers Parks will remain closed until further notice.

The Downtown Library will be closed indefinitely.


DEBRI COLLECTION/Drop-off AND TRASH PICKUP


Trash Pickup

The City of Fort Myer’s Solid Waste Division will resume normal pick-up for residential trash only on Monday, October 3, 2022. We will be servicing the normal Monday residential routes and the missed Thursday residential routes missed last week on Monday. The normal Tuesday residential routes and missed Friday residential routes will be picked up Tuesday. Recycling will not be serviced. White goods and C and D pickups will be delayed to a later date.

As you prepare your Hurricane Ian clean-up, please place the debris at the edge of the property in three separate piles:

Appliances (White Goods), Vegetation, and Construction Materials (C & D).

Appliances: Some have gasses or other components that need special handling. (Appliances are sometimes called White Goods.)

  • Vegetative material: Large piles of tree limbs and branches. Bagged vegetative material can be put out at the same time.

  • Construction material: Damaged components of buildings and structures—wood, glass, metal, roofing material, tile, carpeting, concrete, equipment. (C & D)

Debris Pick-Up

Our city crews and contractors are gathering debris from curbs throughout the city.


Debris Drop-Off

For residents – Only storm debris will be accepted and you must be prepared to unload your trucks yourself. Four locations open Monday with operating hours 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily. 

  • Mosquito Control, 1840 Gunnery Road, Lehigh Acres 

  • Brooks Park, 50 South Road, Fort Myers 

  • San Carlos Utility Site, 18078 Cypress Point Road, Fort Myers 

  • Shell Factory, 2805 N. Tamiami Trail, North Fort Myers

For businesses – Lee County commercial business are encouraged to take their storm debris to the Waste-to-Energy Facility, 10500 Buckingham Road, and will be charged by weight. It will be open regular hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For landscaping companies – Landscaping companies hauling vegetative storm debris cleared from residential properties will need a signed declaration from the resident indicating the address where the debris was generated. No debris will be accepted without a signed declaration.
