Can employees use vacation time for emergency absence?
Staff can use accrued vacation and compensatory time off if approved by the employee’s supervisor and follows the department, and city’s policy and or the appropriate contract. The department will need to take into consideration the operational needs when granting any type of leave.

What is a lateral transfer?
A lateral transfer is movement to another position within the same salary pay grade. A lateral transfer may occur within a department, or between departments in the City.

Can employees use vacation time for emergency absence?
Staff can use accrued vacation and compensatory time off if approved by the employee’s supervisor and follows the department, and city’s policy and or the appropriate contract. The department will need to take into consideration the operational needs when granting any type of leave.

What are the consequences if employees do not show up to work?
Departments should have specific procedures for reporting absences and tardiness, in the case that a department does not have specific procedures refer to our City Policy on Attendance and Punctuality in our Policy and Procedures Manual.
In instances where an employee was not approved to be absent by the employee’s supervisor, the employee will be considered absent without approval and will not be paid for the time of absence. Formal disciplinary action, including separation can be applied on a case-by-case basis.
9.
Can employees be required to perform work normally performed by other employees in another job classification?
Yes. Refer to your Union Contract for details and compensation on working out-of-class.
