1. Solid Waste - When is my collection day?

2. Solid Waste - What time should I place the trash and recycling cart at the curb for collection?

We would like for you to have the trash and recycling cart out the night before to ensure it will not be missed, but it must be out no later than 6:30 a.m. on the scheduled trash/recycling collection day.

3. Solid Waste - What service am I provided as a resident of the City of Fort Myers?

We provide:

• 96 gallon trash cart with 1x a week service
• 65 gallon recycling cart with 1x a week service
• Bulk item pick up 1x a week , not to exceed 4 cubic yards of large household items  i.e. furniture, mattresses etc. 
• Horticulture pick up (yard trimmings) 1x a week , not to exceed 10 cubic yards 
• White good removal 1x a week i.e. stove, refrigerator, washer/dryer etc. NOTE: Junk and brush must be separated

Additionally, upon request, we can provide a 96 gallon horticulture cart for yard trimmings and clippings at a cost of $2.75 per month.

4. Solid Waste - What do I do if I have more trash/recycling that won’t fit in my cart?

For trash you can request an additional can for $7.34 a month serviced 1x a week or a one-time pick up charge of $13.25. For recycling you can receive an additional cart free of charge serviced 1x a week by calling the Solid Waste Division @ (239) 321-8050.

5. Solid Waste - What if my trash or recycling cart is stolen, damaged or broken?

If your cart is stolen, damaged or broken, please call the Solid Waste Division at (239) 321-8050 to have it repaired or replaced.

6. Solid Waste - As a residential customer, how do I get rid of household chemicals and electronics?

These items are not collected by the City of Fort Myers but can be dispose of without charge by calling Lee County @ (239)533-8000, located 6441 Topaz Ct. Fort Myers.

7. Solid Waste - Why did everyone else in my neighborhood receive collection except me?

Although operator oversights may occasionally occur, refuse is typically not collected if carts are overweight, not placed out on time, blocked by vehicles (impairing the drivers sight), or overfilled creating a mess, when serviced. Cart must be placed 5 feet from any obstruction in order to service safely.  Helpful directions are listed on the can lid.
