Meter Reading - Does the meter belong to me?: No. Per City Code of Ordinances Sec. 90-43 –Meters (A). All primary water meters furnished, read and serviced by the City shall remain the property of the City and shall be accessible and subject to its control.

Public Works - Utility Billing

1. Utility Billing - When is your office open?: Our office is open Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the exception of certain holidays.

3. Utility Billing - Can I have my utility bill auto deducted/drafted from my account each month?: Yes. Please call customer service at (239) 321-8100, or come in person to set up.

The City of Fort Myers has 4 payment options for your convenience.

1. In person. You may pay your utility bill in person at the Utility Billing Payment Center located 2925 Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Fort Myers 33916.
2. Online. You may pay your utility bill on line by visiting www.cityftmyers.com/billpay to access your account.
3. By Phone. You may pay your utility bill by phone using your debit or credit card by calling 1-(877)-333-0866 and following the prompts. Visa, Master Card, American Express and Discover are accepted.
4. By mail. You may send your payment by mail to: Post Office Box 30185 Tampa, FL 33630-3185. Please allow an additional 5-7 days for mailing and processing.

5. Utility Billing - What is the deposit for a new account?: $175.00 deposit, $30.00 service fee. Standard for Residential Services.

6. Utility Billing - My wife/husband (family member) is deceased. How do I remove their name from the utility account?: We will need a copy of the deceased party’s death certificate and valid photo ID from the requesting party in order to change the name on the account.

7. Utility Billing - I have recently had a name change. How do I go about changing my name on my utility account?: We will need the applicable legal documentation such as a marriage license, divorce papers, etc. to have your name changed on the account. You can sent a legible copy in by mail or fax at (239) 344-5958, or in person at the City’s payment center.

8. Meter Reading - Can I turn my water on or off at the curb stop without calling the City first?: As per City Code of Ordinances Sec. 90-33.

9. Meter Reading - Who has access to my water meter?: The City of Fort Myers and its authorized agents; per City Code of Ordinances Sec. 90-39.

10. Meter Reading - Can I have water without a meter?: No, as long as municipal services are available. Per City Code of Ordinances Sec. 90-43.

12. Meter Reading - How do I read my meter?: You read your meter from left to right starting with the first digit that is not a “0”, reading all the numbers until the decimal point.

13. Meter Reading - How does my meter get read?: The City of Fort Myers has “Radio Transmitted Reading” which means that a radio signal is sent out every 4 seconds and when we pass by your meter the reading system picks up the read.
